A dog had to be rescued and treated in Carroll County on Saturday when a lightning strike caused a massive fire inside a Louisville Road residence in Finksburg.
At around 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9, crews from multiple agencies were called to the home, which was fully engulfed by flames amid the Severe Thunderstorm Warning that was issued over the weekend in parts of Maryland.
The homeowners were not home when the lightning strike happened, but upon arrival, first responders were met by the family's dog, who was still inside, was rescued and given oxygen by responding paramedics.
The fire caused an estimated $400,000 in damage and the home is considered a complete loss.
On Friday night, in Harford County, a second fire was also sparked by a lightning strike, though no injuries were reported on Trimble Fields Drive in Edgewood.
